"The Story of the Naked Noodle"
My whole family is in the restaurant business, so it seems very natural to have been drawn to this challenging and fun type of business.
My Uncle and my mom do an amazing job running the Domino's stores in the Coachella Valley, My dad is the original Domino's entrepreneur of California and many of our other family members have worked in the restaurant business over the years. I've always respected small business owners as they provide tons of jobs for the community and generate revenue that sincerely stimulates the economy, all while providing a service and/or product that customers truly want.
I had been a teacher in Los Angeles for three years before realizing I too wanted to be a restauranteur. In June of '04, the building of the Naked Noodle restaurant began. We opened our doors in December of '04, and became a fun and profitable venture by our fifth year up and running. The staff was fantastic and we really did bring in the crowds, particularly during the "season" in the desert. Our wine dinners were amazingly successful and all of our "regulars" and local clientele made us a recognized place to go in Indio! AND if you're reading this, you probably were a customer and knew that our food was FANTASTIC at a reasonable price.
The only thing with a tiny restaurant is that being the owner/ operator meant working TONS of hours---and now that there is a BABY on the way-- I could not imagine how on earth I could work the hours I did, and raise a kid! SO, a change of direction was in the cards...
Sadly, the Naked Noodle concept is wrapped up and on a shelf, for the time being. It remains to be seen if it will come to see the light down the road. "Teddy's 2" is now the new tenant occupying our old location and Teddy is a very nice man who used to own Teddy's in La Quinta! We wish him the best of luck in our old spot!
As for the noodle team---most of the staff have a lot going on in their lives---there are babies, and toddlers, new jobs and new business ventures. Everyone seems to be on a new and exciting path as summer progresses.
As for me-- well, Mike and I have moved to San Diego! We are planning to open another restaurant called Jersey Mike's Subs in a few months. We currently are working and training at an existing Jersey Mike's location in Mission Valley, but our own store should be open by January 2011 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. So please come on in and visit if you are ever in San Diego!
If you're interested in finding out more about Jersey Mike's, check them out on the web. It's an amazing up and coming franchise with delicious "east coast" style subs! :) I personally am looking forward to being part of a "team" as there are many Jersey Mike's coming along down the pipeline and a lot of very cool exciting people involved in this entrepreneurial adventure as well.
Thanks again for all of your past patronage! Hope to see you again soon!
